LOD-LAM microdata and schema(dot)org

Page history last edited by Mia 12 years, 10 months ago

Big session!

Lots of people have already looked at it and at microdata. Eric @gluejar wants lots of people's perspectives esp coming from microformats, RDFa.

If assume that schema.org is good for SEO then it's a good thing. But does using it create an opportunity cost for LAM?

Does the SEO benefit of microdata mean that organisations who aren't drinking their own champagne won't now publish in other formats, because microdata will satisfice.

Qu re HTML5 and microformats, microdata - what happens spec-wise?

re extending the Thing model - split into

Use case - if the only access we'll get to re-usable data is by organisations publishing microdata, it's in our best interest to get them to do it in the best way possible.

Looking at eg book (http://schema.org/Book) - lacks room for identifiers.

'If interested in linked open data, treat microdata as a force of nature' - work with it like any other legacy format.

Steps to go forward...

Looking at people, places, thing data - what can microdata express that works for us, and where does it lack?  What can't it express about our historical, cultural, natural history data that we want to be able to express?

Point about not throwing baby out with bathwater - so much work already done on models, microdata doesn't change that.
